Vasopressin also called antidiuretic hormone is synthesized in the hypothalamus and transported down axons and secreted by the posterior pituitary gland.
Along with vasopressin, oxytocin is also synthesized in the hypothalamus and secreted by the posterior pituitary.
This is an antidiuretic hormone. It reduces urine output, by increasing permeability of collecting ducts in kidneys and increasing absorption of water. By increasing, water absorption vasopressin increases ECF and also reduces osmolality.
