The Power Course

Pulses paradoxes is characterized by

Choices

1 ) Decrease in systemic pressure during expiration
2 ) There is a decreased blood flow to the right heart during inspiration
3 ) The paradox is about the feeling of pulse without heart sounds
4 ) Physiologic decrease in systemic blood pressure in inspiration gets exaggerated

Explanation

During inspiratation there is a fall in intrathoracic pressure, this increases the venous return to the right heart. Consequently, the interventricular septum bulges to the left side thus reducing is a left ventricular volume. This leads to reduced stroke volume and reduced systemic pressure.

Pulses paradoxes actually exaggerated physiologic decrease in systemic blood pressure during inspiration.

The paradox of pulses paradoxes, is audible heart sounds without a radial pulse.

Causes of Pulses Paradoxes are;

Cardiac Causes Extracardiac pulmonary causes Extracardiac non-pulmonary causes
Cardiac tamponade Bronchial asthma shock
Pericardial effusion Tension pneumothorax Volvulus of the stomach
Constrictive pericarditis   Diaphragmatic hernia
Restrictive cardiomyopathy   Superior vena cava obstruction
Pulmonary embolism   Extreme obesity
Acute myocardial infarction
