Explanation


In the DMFT index, any tooth with a sound permanent restoration without secondary caries is considered to be Filled (F).  Preventive fillings like pit and fissure sealants which are give on teeth with the risk of caries development are also recorded as a Filled component in the DMFT index. This leads to an overestimation of the DMFT scores.
