The Power Course

Atrial Fibrillation which is incorrect

1 ) Regular ventricular rate
2 ) P wave not seen
3 ) Chances of having atrial fibrillation increases with increasing age
4 ) May not be associated with organic heart disease

The characteristic feature of atrial fibrillation is irregular ventricular tachycardia. i.e ventricle contract irregularly irregular.

P wave of ECG which is a sign of atrial depolarization is absent in atrial fibrillation.

Advanced age increases the likely hood developing atrial fibrillation.

There is an entity called Lone atrial fibrillation, which is not associated with any organic heart disease. systemic illnesses like Hyperthyrodsium can lead to the development of atrial fibrillation

Causes of Atrial Fibrillation

1. Rheumatic valvular heart disease

2. Lone AF in the elderly

3. Paroxysmal AF in the young

4. AF in association with Hypertension and ischemic heart disease

5. Cardiomyopathy

6. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

7. Thyrotoxicosis

8. Atrial septal defect

9. Pulmonary embolism
